• July 1 - The present "One country two systems" guarantee with Hong Kong, provided under the Basic Law, is set to expire. (The agreement is raised by Deng Xiaoping to deal with Hong Kong's reunification with the People's Republic of China in 1997, and is stipulated in the Sino-British Joint Declaration of 1984. The guarantees specified a period of 50 years after 1997.)
