The solo form routine sequence, usually called the hand form or just the form in English and ch'üan in Mandarin: 拳 (in Wade-Giles romanization: ch'üan2, in the pinyin system: quán), is the best known manifestation of T'ai Chi training for the general public. It is usually performed slowly by beginners and is designed to condition the body and acquaint students with the inventory of motion for more advanced styles of training (see pushing hands).

Differences between schools
This is an English translation from Chinese of the form list used by the Wu family's Hong Kong headquarters and the international T'ai Chi Ch'uan schools managed from there. The family's Shanghai branch has a slightly different enumeration scheme, numbering the same "long form" routine sequence with 89 posture names.
